How to apply a Pancard ?

What is the Pancard ?

A PAN card (Permanent Account Number) is a unique 10-digit alphanumeric identifier issued by the Income Tax Department of India to individuals, companies, and other entities. The PAN card serves as proof of identity for tax purposes and is mandatory for financial transactions such as opening a bank account, receiving taxable income, buying and selling property, etc.

A PAN card contains the holder's name, date of birth (in case of individuals), and a recent photograph, as well as the PAN number and the issuing authority. It is important to note that a PAN card is not proof of citizenship and must be used in conjunction with another valid form of identification.

In order to apply for a PAN card, individuals can visit the official NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) website or the UTIITSL (UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Limited) website and complete the online application process by submitting the required documents and paying the applicable fee.

How many types of PANCARD available ?

There are two types of PAN card available in India:

  • Individual PAN card: This type of PAN card is issued to individuals, including individuals who are self-employed, salaried employees, students, etc.
  • Non-Individual PAN card: This type of PAN card is issued to entities such as companies, firms, trusts, limited liability partnerships (LLPs), Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), etc.

Both types of PAN card serve as proof of identity for tax purposes and are mandatory for various financial transactions. The format and contents of both types of PAN card are the same, with the only difference being the type of entity to which the PAN is issued.

What are documents required for Pancard?

The following documents are typically required to apply for a PAN card in India:

  • Completed PAN card application form (Form 49A for individuals and Form 49AA for non-individuals)
  • Proof of identity (e.g. passport, voter ID card, Aadhaar card)
  • Proof of address (e.g. utility bill, bank statement, rental agreement)
  • Proof of date of birth (e.g. birth certificate, school leaving certificate, passport)
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs

Note: The specific requirements for each type of PAN card applicant (individual or non-individual) may vary. It's best to check the latest guidelines on the official NSDL or UTIITSL website for the most up-to-date information.
