How to apply Indian Passport ?

 Indian Passport

An Indian passport is an official government-issued document that serves as proof of Indian citizenship and allows the holder to travel internationally. It contains personal information such as the holder's name, date of birth, and photo, as well as a unique passport number. An Indian passport is required for Indian citizens to enter and exit foreign countries.

What type of Passport available ?

In India, there are two types of passports available for citizens:

1,Ordinary Passport: This is a standard passport issued for ordinary travel, such as for business or leisure.

2,Official/Diplomatic Passport: This type of passport is issued to individuals traveling abroad on official government business, including diplomats and government officials.

Both types of passports have different privileges and are issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

What are documents required for Indian passport ?

The following documents are typically required to apply for an Indian passport:

·        Proof of identity (e.g. Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID card)
·         Proof of address (e.g. utility bill, bank statement, rental agreement)
·         Date of birth proof (e.g. birth certificate, school leaving certificate, PAN card)
·         Self-declaration of name change (if applicable)

Note: The specific requirements for each type of passport (ordinary or official/diplomatic) and for different categories of applicants (e.g. minors, senior citizens) may vary. It's best to check the latest guidelines on the official Indian passport website for the most up-to-date information.

How much fees for Passport ?

The fee for an Indian passport depends on the type of passport you are applying for and the processing speed you require. As of my knowledge cut off (2021), the following fees are applicable:

Ordinary Passport (36-page booklet):

  • Normal Processing (15 days): ₹1,500
  • Tatkal Processing (1 day)      : ₹3,000

Official/Diplomatic Passport: No fees are specified, as this type of passport is issued by the government.

Note: The fees are subject to change, and it is best to check the latest fees on the official Indian passport website before making an application. Additionally, there may be additional fees for various services such as delivery, change of personal particulars, etc.
